A little over eighteen months ago, we wrote a blog post introducing the Miss L Fire team. It featured photos and a little info on each of us. It was cute and lighthearted - we all cringed a little at revealing even small insights into our personalities (believe it or not, we are all somewhat shy), but we also knew that letting you, our wonderful followers, know who was designing, selling, marketing and packing your orders was something we had wanted to do for a while; it was our way of saying 'thank you' for supporting our beloved brand.

Scroll forward eighteen months and our world has changed beyond anything any of us could ever have imagined.

Let's be honest - there is very little about this current situation that feels good...but it has made us all take a big old look at our lives, at how we spend our time, and who with.

For me, it has made me realise that I actually don't want to be jumping on a plane every five minutes, especially since we work with amazing shoe artisans, who really don't need me to hold their hands at every point of the production process. I have learned to be OK with having less control (well....more OK than before anyway)!

It has made me realise that home is where I really want to be, and that I want to spend as much time with the people I love as I possibly can. Obvious stuff, but not so obvious to me not so long ago.

It has also made me realise that the team we have here at L Fire mean a lot more to me than just work colleagues. I love these women. I love how smart they are, how much they make me laugh, how they weather every storm, how much I care about their lives outside of the 9 to 5.

We are diverse both in background, nationality, and opinions.

We argue - a lot - mainly about shoes (we want to get the best possible shoes designed and made, and into our stores - and we don't always agree on the best way to achieve that)!

We all want each other to be happy, and we all support each other when we're having a tough time.

We are family.

It is hard for me to convey how amazing my team is, and that if one ounce of their wonderfulness is reflected in the shoes we sell, then for sure, I know that we have the best shoes in the world.

So I have asked them all to reveal a little more about themselves, in the hope that you can all see their amazingness too. And I've also answered the questions myself. Feel free to ask us any questions you like in our comments section!

Where are you from originally & where do you live now?
I grew up in rural Derbyshire, England, close to the beautiful Peak District. I love everything about it - it’s pretty, quiet, and the people are super friendly. I am very fortunate that I have the most amazing parents and family, who still live there.
As a teenager, I thought it was boring and I couldn’t wait to get out of there and explore the world…which I have - but the older I get, the more I realise that there really is no place like home.
That said, I LOVE where I am living right now - beautiful California with my love, Jedd. I am pretty lucky on the whole!

What do you do at L Fire?
In theory, I’m the boss/founder of Miss L Fire. I design the shoes, with a lot of input from the whole team. I also put the bins out and can fix most email issues.

How long have you worked at Miss L Fire?
Since 2005 when I started the company from my spare bedroom. I started the company with £5k of my savings and took on freelance work to pay the bills whilst I got the brand going.
What aspect of your job do you like the most?
Well, I do love coming up with new shoe designs - that’s always exciting…but my favourite moments from the past 15 years are the funny, ridiculous moments we’ve had together as a team on work trips. Sleeping in a run-down motel literally in the middle of a graveyard, winning an award at our first US trade show (it was a giant bottle of champagne…which we couldn’t take home, so had to drink it), horse-riding in Palm Springs, dressing up for our early photoshoots, opening our US store….just too many moments to mention.

What do you love to do when you are not at work?
Being with my family both in California and the UK, going for long walks, playing with my two bulldogs, hanging out in my garden, planting stuff, riding my ancient motorcycle, and pre-covid, eating out. I also love cooking - I find it super relaxing - and since Covid, I’ve re-discovered sewing, which is especially handy since I’ve just moved house and have no curtains!

Do you have any fashion faux-pas lurking in your past? Can we see photos?
I experimented quite a bit with hair colour when I was younger…and I also wasn’t exactly skilled at make-up application! The first photo is me at my first University Ball, sometime in the early ’90s. I had to sleep with the hair colour and a bag on my head to get the colour that bright without bleach 😂. I made the dress myself….I based it on illustrations I found in a copy of Alice in Wonderland. The bright, fire-red hair led to my nickname, Miss L Fire.

If you could choose an alternate career, what would it be?
Either something to do with gardening, or working in a museum. I’m history and plant obsessed. Or if I had the money, buying and renovating houses. I’m super fascinated with houses - especially old ones; I live in a Victorian house which was built in 1895, and researching its history has been fascinating.
What is your current favourite L-FIRE shoe?
I absolutely adore our CORA half wedges. They are a heel, but they feel like a low flat-form…SO comfy! I’m a huge Art-Deco fan, so just love the sun-burst detail on the upper. Both colour-ways are so gorgeous that it’s hard to pick just one!

Where are you from originally & where do you live now?
I grew up in Milan in Italy. I had a fun childhood between the City, the Alps and the sea (that are only 1 hour away from Milan). When I was 19 there was nothing else I wanted more than moving to London. I wanted to graduate in English literature and live the cultural and music scene that the British capital offered so I moved in 2004 and never left since!

What you do at L Fire?
On paper, I’m the Brand Director and looking at the commercial and branding aspect of Miss L Fire. But I’d rather think people just see me as Dami from Miss L Fire :))

How long have you worked at Miss L Fire?
In 2008 I had an interview with Lynsey and I guess it was love at first sight! To be confirmed by Lynsey...

What aspect of your job do you like the most?
I think it’s exchanging with people and their opinions. I met through this job so many people (some have become amazing friends!) and travelled places that really taught me a lot in life.

I love our little team, we are all different and have diverse perspectives and this is incredibly useful to result in the best decisions for the brand. Our wholesale and retail customers play an incredible part in this also.

What do you love to do when you are not at work?
I love to cook and create dishes out of ingredients I have at home (I don’t like to waste!). I love to read, at the moment I want to rediscover or read some classics I have never touched. I’m reading a beautifully written book called the Gattopardo right now.
And I love to walk! There is nothing better and more relaxing to clear your mind than a long walk. After so many years in London, I still discover new places and new things that the city offers.

Do you have any fashion faux-pas lurking in your past? Can we see photos?
Unfortunately, I don’t have many photo proof to offer of awkward style moments, but I certainly rocked a bowl style hair cut in my early years of life I could show off?

** Note from Lynsey** scroll to the bottom of the blog post to see some pics of Dami and I through the L-Fire ages!**

If you could choose an alternate career, what would it be?
I think I would definitely do something to help others. There are so many people and situations that can be helped in this world.

What is your current favourite L-FIRE shoe?
I think my absolute favourite is Isla. The colours, the fit, it’s just the perfect style you want for summer! And you can walk forever in them.

Where are you from originally & where do you live now?
I’m a northerner – originally from Manchester, lived in London for 8 years

What do you do at L Fire?
I am the UK retail manager. I run the UK website, marketing, customer service and model the shoes!

How long have you worked at Miss L Fire?
I’ve been here for 1.5 years, although it feels like so much longer (in a good way!)

What aspect of your job do you like the most?
My favourite part of my job are all the creative parts. The photoshoots, making the newsletters, designing the website.
I also love getting positive feedback from our customers – makes it all worthwhile!

What do you love to do when you are not at work?
Outside of work, you will normally find me in a charity shop, flea market/car boot sale or in a cocktail bar…
Other hobbies include sleeping, eating chips and trying not to kill my houseplants.

Do you have any fashion faux-pas lurking in your past? Can we see photos?
Alright, here’s a questionable one…

If you could choose an alternate career, what would it be?
I’d love to have my own vintage/second-hand shop. However, the hoarder inside me would not be able to part with most of the stock I’d buy.
Apart from that, I’d be a singer, Whitney Houston style but anyone that is lucky enough to hear me actually sing would 100% not agree.

What is your current favourite L-FIRE shoe?
For me, it has to be Lois. Simple, practical but timeless.

Where are you from originally & where do you live now?
I am a rarity as I am actually from Los Angeles, I grew up in a city right outside of Downtown LA about 20 mins away called Norwalk. I currently live in the city of Whittier which is not far from where I grew up but I would definitely consider myself a true Angelino.

What you do at L Fire?
Gosh, it’s so hard to pinpoint what I do as I do it all! I am the US operations manager for L Fire and I do everything from managing our website, handling customer service inquiries, hiring, wholesale, shipping orders, receiving shipments, payroll, working our sales floor at the boutique, etc… Lynsey lived in London so I always made sure that everything ran smoothly over here in the US so she can have peace of mind when she was away.

How long have you worked at Miss L Fire?
I have been with Miss L Fire for 7 years! I was the first hire when the shop first opened back in 2013 in Los Feliz. It’s been a fun and wild ride ever since.

What aspect of your job do you like the most?
I would have to say that I love travelling to meet up with my wholesale customers for sales appointments. It allows me to see different parts of the US and to grow a bond with our retailers & it really pushed me to be more independent and rely on myself whilst travelling alone. Also, when I would travel with my colleagues it only helped to grow our bond stronger and I have some great incredible memories during our travels!

What do you love to do when you are not at work?
I LOVE playing with makeup! I can spend hours doing my makeup, shopping for makeup, talking about makeup… I think you guys get it right? Lol!

I also really enjoy going to breweries & wineries with my husband and enjoying a nice drink and finishing it off with a lovely dinner. It is our way of treating ourselves after a long work week.

Do you have any fashion faux-pas lurking in your past? Can we see photos?

Oh gosh, I have plenty! But thankfully I do not have any of those photographs at the moment, I’m remembering that whole legging trend under tunic shirts that happened in the early-mid 2000s, do you guys remember? BUT here’s this one I found where my lipstick was an AWFUL shade of pink, yuck! What was I thinking?

If you could choose an alternate career, what would it be?
I would probably like to work for a cosmetics company, I would like to learn more about that industry.

What is your current favourite L-FIRE shoe?
I would have to say that the Reiki is my favourite this season, it’s so cute and simple and I think everyone needs a pair!

To get a 15% discount on Jocelyn's pick, REIKI, apply the discount code JOCELYN15 at checkout - limited time only.

And here are some of my favourite photos of us through the years!
